Familial Music SPCO Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Lembit Beecher’s piece Small Looking Up, about looking up to his older brother, is featured in this program about family. The program also includes a work by SPCO Principal Horn James Ferree, written for the birth of his nephew, and a string quartet Robert Schumann wrote for his wife Clara’s 23rd birthday.

Frank Martin’s Polyptyque (1973) pays tribute to Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion through its scoring for double string orchestra.
