Nicholas Jennings White is an American composer who has been hailed as a refreshing unique voice. His work has been heard in a variety of venues in the United States and across the globe including Carnegie Hall, the Edvard Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway, Saint Petersburg Conservatory in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and Studio Z in St. Paul, Minnesota.
His sense of musical landscape, natural compositional flow, and imagination has been compared to composers such as Robert Helps and Leonard Bernstein (Dr. William Weidrich, University of South Florida), as well as “Accomplished, and expressive, (with) dramatic flair.” (John Fleming, Tampa Bay Times). The music is modern and relevant, yet still pleasing for audiences.
White has been commissioned by a variety of ensembles from beginning level players to award winning professionals. He has written music for theater, film, jazz groups, popular music ensembles, and the concert stage with equal prowess. He is a graduate of the Pinellas County Center for the Arts, and studied composition at the New England Conservatory under John Mallia, and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory under Russian Composer Laureate Sergei Slonimsky.
In addition to composition White is an experienced freelance musician specializing in Horn and Guitar. He is a proud member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the American Federation of Musicians (AFM). Originally from Tampa, Florida, he currently resides in Minneapolis, MN with his wife Serena and his cat Vicky.
