The Golden Ass is an experimental opera by MN local composer and 113 Co-Founder, Tiffany M. Skidmore, and New York-based librettist Patrick Gallagher.
The Golden Ass is a psychological setting of the Psyche/Cupid myth that focuses on the relationship between Psyche, her vindictive mother-in-law, Venus, and their relationships to society. Psyche is a dissociating young girl, a reluctant new bride, the daughter of one man and wife of another, both of whom sacrifice, subjugate, and discard her as she ages. Society watches Psyche’s life unfold—at times silently failing to speak on her behalf, while at other times, amplifying the malignant voices that surround her.
The opera will be directed by 113 Co-Founder & President Joey Crane and conducted by Betsy McCann. Featured performing artists include the prestigious Quince Vocal Ensemble (Carrie Henneman Shaw, Elizabeth Pearse, Anna Elder, Kayleigh Butcher), Tenor Adam Zahller, and Baritone Justin Anthony Spenner, and cellists cellists Joey Crane and Anthony R. Green.
