SPCO with Martin Fröst
May 31 @ 8:00 pm$11 – $26
Artistic Partner Martin Fröst explores two distinct, but essential, dimensions of the clarinet’s identity in this intimate chamber ensemble program. With Mozart’s late works featuring the clarinet and inspired by the virtuoso Anton Stadler, Mozart essentially gave birth to the soul of the clarinet. The Quintet for Clarinet and Strings is perhaps the finest example of this. In recent seasons, Fröst has delved deeply into the folk traditions that are central to the clarinet’s repertoire, and in the second half of the program the virtuosity of Fröst and the SPCO will be on full display in a wide range of styles from klezmer to tango.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Quintet in A, Stadler
Georg Philipp Telemann: Presto for Clarinet and Orchestra
Astor Piazzolla: The Death of the Angel
Béla Bartók: Romanian Folk Dances
Göran Fröst: Klezmer Dance Nos. 2 and 3
