National Lutheran Choir in Concert
November 2 @ 7:30 pm$42
Meaningful remembrance, with a towering work in the classical music canon
Choral music meets solemnity in NLC’s 16th annual All Saints program. Alice Parker’s “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal” and Arvo Pärt’s “Beatitudes” serve as introit before a silent procession, where names of the recently departed will be memorialized on screen. Then, the 12 movements of the Latin requiem Mass–a service of remembrance–complete the ritual in W.A. Mozart’s colossal and timeless setting of the Requiem. Four outstanding vocal soloists, an orchestra of some of the best players in the Twin Cities, and, of course, the National Lutheran Choir lift up one of the most important works in all of the Western canon. A pre-concert lecture will illuminate the historical context of Mozart’s Requiem.
