Kantorei Audience Appreciation Concert
October 27 @ 3:00 pmFREE
Kantorei, the Minnesota-based a cappella choral ensemble, announces its 2019-20 concert season, which begins with a free Audience Appreciation Concert Oct. 27 in Minneapolis.
This concert provides a sampling of music that is part of the choir’s 2019-20 literature. Kantorei will premiere “Sing to Me,” composed by Minnesotan David Evan Thomas and commissioned by Kantorei as a gift to Founder-Director Axel Theimer, celebrating 30 years of Kantorei. Other pieces include “Bright Morning Star” arranged by Fred Squatrito, “Rise Up Shepherd,” arranged by Stacey V. Gibbs, and “The Morning Trumpet” arranged by Edwin Fissinger.
Several pieces by Fissinger (1920-1990), a Midwest composer, will be featured this season. “His music doesn’t get the recognition it deserves,” Theimer said. “We’re doing a special tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of this birth.”
Theimer, a native of Austria and alumnus of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, has led Kantorei since it was founded in 1988.
“Join us to celebrate the power of music to bring people together,” Theimer said. “I hope you’ll enjoy familiar tunes, world premieres and seldom heard treasures.”
