Carlisle Evans Peck and the Lady’s Slippers, w/ Kenan Serenbetz
March 14 @ 6:30 pm$10 – $20
St. Paul’s ELCA Church presents an evening concert of dramatic, genre-bending new music with Carlisle Evans Peck & The Lady’s Slippers and Kenan Serenbetz.
Singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist Carlisle Evans Peck and his seven-piece orchestral-rock band The Lady’s Slippers combine the grace of choral music, the theatricality of opera, and the baroque maximalism of Kate Bush and Queen into a musical experience unlike any other. Their work has been hailed as “otherworldly” (Hear-Queer) and “beautifully transportive” (Reviler). Evans Peck’s compositional prowess and keen sense of the emotive landscape of song is powerfully displayed among the ornate instrumentation of drummer Abby LeGare (Ginger Bones), guitarist Michael Kuhn, bassist Willow Waters (The Earth Tones, Sister Species), violinist Joni Griffith (Bella Yaga), and the lush three-part harmonies of Brenna Everson, Kasi Misseldine, and Emily Knezz.
Singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Kenan Serenbetz conjures teeming and blossoming ecosystems in his plainchant-inspired songs. Soaring above banjo, harmonium, autoharp, or simply unaccompanied, Kenan’s hypnotic vocal melodies and beautifully crafted poetry evoke striking imagery of the natural world as if they were echoes of a fading ancient wisdom.
