38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert

A not to be missed multi-disciplinary celebration intermixing the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with musical performances. Featuring local artists curated by U of M alumnus G. Phillip Shoultz, III of VocalEssence.

Hear powerful new compositions and arrangements from the African American spiritual, freedom song and gospel traditions. Featured composers include Bernice Johnson Reagon (Ella’s Song), Abbie Betinis (Resilience), Mark Miller (Love Has Broken Down the Walls), Benji Pasek and Justin Paul (This Is Me from The Greatest Showman), John Stephens, Lonnie Lynn, Che Smith (Glory). Local musician Jacob Dodd will also be playing some of his own works.

Featuring: VocalEssence Singers Of this Age; Ginger Commodore; Jacob Dodd; Brian A. Grandison; Madalyn McCurdy, granddaughter of Reginald Buckner; Karla Nweje; Chadwick “Niles” Phillips; Atosha Rypa; U of M student brass ensemble; Harry Waters, Jr.; and a special appearance by Minneapolis Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins.
