Former SPCO Artistic Partner Thomas Zehetmair returns to conduct a program spanning nearly 250 years of music history. The oldest work on the program, Jean-Féry Rebel’s The Elements offers a French Baroque take on the creation of the universe, beginning with a shockingly modern and dissonant introductory movement: Chaos. In contrast, French-Canadian composer Claude Vivier’s 1983 entry entitled Zipangu has an ancient, primordial feeling throughout the work.
